little known fact [Jan. 4th, 2007|09:43 pm]

In the final years of his life, Steve Prefontaine suffered from Sciatica (pressure on the spine and inflammation of the sciatic nerve), causing his training and racing to suffer.

I recently read his biography, "Pre" and they ahd a section on it...It actually made him lose a few races over seas. He also had a problem with breathing. he did a 3:58 tune-up mile and the local farmers were burning and after he ran he coughed up blood and lost a later race...I think he withdrew and then had to go see a doctor to have his lungs fixed...

Thanks for the fact =)
