little known fact [Jan. 4th, 2007|09:43 pm]

In the final years of his life, Steve Prefontaine suffered from Sciatica (pressure on the spine and inflammation of the sciatic nerve), causing his training and racing to suffer.

since nobody else is saying anything... [Nov. 26th, 2006|01:11 pm]

Okay, I guess I'll go first.  I'm Adam.  I'm 25, 26 next month, and I live just outside of Annapolis, Maryland.  I've been running for about as long as I can remember, so that's about 16 years.  I ran all through middle school, high school, and college.  Some of my accomplishments as a runner:

4:18 1500 (4:31 mile, converted)
9:42 2-mile
15:10 5,000m (track)
31:35 10,000m
57:10 10 mile
1:16:26 half-marathon
2:47:23 marathon

I've also been a high school track coach, but that was back in my hometown in Michigan.  My girls' 4x800 relay team won the state championship this past june in 9:31.24.

Pre's always been a motivation to me because he trains the way most runners wish they could train--without fear.  He really embodies what hard work, talent, and complete lack of surrender can do.  More than that, his coach, Bill Bowerman, is the man I model myself after as a coach and a mentor.  When I return to coaching (after a year in the AmeriCorps--the domestic Peace Corps, for anybody who isn't familiar with it), I intend to model myself even more after Bowerman and after Pre, both as a coach/mentor and as an athlete.

Welcome to Steve Pre!! Post little about yourself and then feel free to add anything about Pre...you can also talk about your running as well and post icons, art, whatever. Be creative :) I made this so Pre fans could have somewhere to talk and share their knowledge of America's greatest distance runner.
